The Atlanta Falcons are benefiting from a new rule and will be getting an additional 3rd round draft pick in this year’s NFL Draft. Under the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement, teams can gain picks based on the team’s net gain/loss in free agency from the previous season. Last season the Falcons gained Ovie Mughelli and Lewis Sanders, but lost Patrick Kearney, Justin Griffin and Ashley Lelie.

The Falcons were one of four NFL teams to be granted picks. (Bengals, Ravens and Redskins were the others)

With the additional 3rd round pick, which is the 98th overall, the Falcons now have 7 in the top 103. This pick can not be traded. Last season, the 98th pick was defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock of Ohio State. He was selected by the Colts.
