Up to this point, John Smoltz hasn’t been playing well with others. He hasn’t pitched, at all, for the Braves in Spring Training. His only throwing has been in isolation, on the backfield pitching mound against the minor leaguers.

That’s all going to change on Saturday, March 15th as Smoltz will take the mound in his first “real” appearance of the spring against the Tampa Bay Rays at Disney’s complex in Orlando.

The answer to the question of why Smoltz hasn’t been pitching yet is simple. Smoltz asked, early on, to skip his first three spring starts to work on his sinker and his off-speed pitches in a non-competitive environment.
