Charlie MortonCharlie Morton did more than what was asked for when he took the mound in his major league debut on Saturday. The 24-year old got the victory over the first place Los Angeles Angels throwing 6 strong innings allowing 3 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 while walking just one.

Morton was a 3rd round pick of the Braves back in 2002. That draft has worked well for the Braves.

Jeff Francoeur was their first pick overall in that draft going 23rd. Pitcher Dan Meyer was the supplemental first rounder that year. In the 2nd round the Braves picked up Brian McCann. Later in the 2nd they picked up shortstop James Greene, but in the 3rd came Charlie Morton. In the 20th round they picked up Chuck James who has had on-and-off success for Atlanta.
