Stat Of The Day
Posted by: Dave McMahon in Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, Stat Of The Day, tags: Jason Varitek, Robby Hammock
Former Georgia Tech standout Jason Varitek was the lucky one last night as he caught Jon Lester’s no-hitter. It was the 4th time he has caught a no-hitter. The other ones were: Hideo Nomo in 2001, Derek Lowe in 2002, Clay Buchholz in 2007 and Lester). The 4 broke a record held by Yogi Berra, Roy Campenella, Alan Ashby and Ray Schalk.
The last former Georgia Bulldog catcher to catch a no-hitter in the majors was Robby Hammock, who caught Randy Johnson’s no-no against the Braves on May 18, 2004.

What a bunch of homers you guys are… Can’t you let a former GT star bask in his statistical glory alone, without mentioning your all-mighty, precious UGA Bulldogs???
Come on!!!! What does Robby “F%$&ing” Hammock have to do with Varitek’s great feat?

i did look also if varitek caught one at tech, but the media guide showed the last time they had a no-hitter by one player was in the 1987 and they did not show when a staff had one last…. i also called the baseball sid… and she did not know off hand…
another reason i chose the hammock … it was against the braves and it is around the university
yes i agree i know more about uga than tech, but at least i am trying
