Scott Spiezio is trying to start over in Atlanta.

After being released by the St. Louis Cardinals in February for a drunk driving incident, the utility infielder signed with Atlanta and will make some minor league starts before joining the Braves. Yesterday he played with the Single-A Rome Braves and faced Chuck James.

He homered and struck out a couple of times against Atlanta pitcher Chuck James, an 11-game winner each of the past two seasons who’s in Rome on a rehab assignment. The 35-year-old infielder also took part in some fielding drills.

“I am ready to go,” Spiezio told the Rome News-Tribune. “I just need to get some timing, get some at-bats under my belt and hopefully I can help (the Braves) soon.”
