The Atlanta Braves signed utility infielder Scott Spiezio to a minor league contract. The 12-year veteran has played over 1,200 games in his big league career and has hit 119 career home runs. He has played for the Athletics, Angels, Mariners and Cardinals, but is best remembered for his 3-run home run in the 7th inning of game six of the 2002 World Series which gave the Angels the lead and forced a game seven which they would win as well.
Unfortunately he is also known for an incident from last December when he was arrested for DUI and five other charges.
He will work at in Class A Rome today before moving on to Triple A Richmond on Wednesday. The Braves are expecting him to join the big club within a few weeks.
